Physical Activity

Healthy Rice County is working to implement policies and practices that create active schools and communities by increasing opportunities for walking and biking (non-motorized transportation) and improved access to recreational facilities.

Current Initiatives Include:

  • Increased walking/biking to and from school, work, and leisure
  • Improved community design and traffic safety measures
  • Increasing signage and promotion of parks, trails, bicycle routes, and recreational facilities
  • Increasing physical activity in child care settings
  • Working with schools and worksites to implement wellness policies, systems and environmental changes.

Please plan to come out and enjoy many of the wonderful recreational facilities and opportunities available in Rice County on June 23.  Olympic Day is a national day to celebrate the birth of the Olympics and be active in your community.  This is your chance to visit and participate in several different physical activities across Rice County – all sites and events are FREE for everyone!
An Olympic athlete will travel to various sites to visit with participants about her experience as an Olympian!  Please see the attached flyer for more information about Rice County Olympic Day!
